Lindsay Gary, MPA, MA

Founder & Board President

Lindsay Gary, MPA, MA is a professor-scholar, social entrepreneur, and multidisciplinary artist. She graduated from the University of Houston with a BA in history and minors in dance and business administration, and with an MA in history and MPA in public policy from Texas Southern University. In 2018 she was selected as a Mellon Scholar in African American History and in 2019 obtained her Graduate Certificate in African American Studies. She works as a professor of history, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Africology and African American Studies.

Lindsay Seymour

Vice President

Lindsay is an ambitious young woman, presently residing in Houston, Texas, she has a passion for education, familes, and supporting the Black community. After moving from Phoenix, Arizona to attend Texas Southern University, Lindsay earned both her bachelors and masters degrees from Texas Southern University in Human Services in Consumer Sciences, with an emphasis in Child and Family Development. Upon completion of her masters degree, Lindsay entered into the field of education by becoming a middle school ELA teacher, and holding several leadership positions while in that role. Lindsay is currently enrolled at Texas Woman’s University pursuing her PhD. in Family Studies and working to become a Certified Family Life Educator.

D’Laurie Guliex

Treasurer

D’Laurie Guliex is a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana and is currently working as a Management Analyst II for the City of Houston. She spends most of her free time baking, sewing, crocheting or dancing with various dance companies.

Blake Green

Board Member At-Large #1

Blake Green is an independent consultant with more than eight years of experience in operations, business development and project management for private, non-profit, and governmental agencies. Blake, a Houston native, received his Bachelor‘s of Business Administration and Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) degrees from Texas Southern University‘s Jesse H. Jones School of Business. Blake is a graduate of United Way’s Project Blueprint program and currently serves on a number of nonprofit boards throughout the Houston community, and was recently named one of Houston‘s top ’40 Under 40’ by i10Media Magazine.

Candace Okin

Board Member At-Large #2, Fundraising Chair

Candace Okin offers nearly 10 years of fundraising, professional writing, communications and relationship management experience. Having worked as a professional Grant Writer for several nonprofits, she has effectively raised more than $4 million in private and government funds over the course of her career.

Candace has been published by several Houston based publications, which include 002 Magazine, and Bliss the Magazine, a relationship themed online Magazine. She also has experience in developing curriculum, as well as developing content for PR based efforts and marketing collateral, and has developed and executed communications strategies for stakeholders within nonprofit businesses. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Texas Southern University, and a Masters in Psychology from Houston Baptist University.

Charles Jackson, III

Board Member At-Large #3

Charles Jackson III was born in Chicago, IL but raised in metro Detroit, MI. Charles received his B.A. in Human Resources and Economics from Michigan State University in 2011 and his M.B.A. from Tiffin University in 2014. He currently works as an Adult Education and Training Specialist at Career and Recovery Resources, a United Way Agency helping people with barriers receive education and employment opportunities. Charles has always had a passion for working with black youth, evident by his heavy involvement in various organizations from high school through adulthood. He also has a strong passion to educate. Charles is a nonprofit professional who stays active in the community.
